I was looking for a used car and happen to visit Toyota Sunnyvale. I met Kalani (sales representative) and Rose. Both were very helpful, friendly, very polite with lots of patience. The one thing which I really appreciate was they were honest and were not pushy like one can expect from sales person. If they were not sure of some answers, rather than giving some vague or hazy answers they introduced us with seniors or relevant person who can answer our query. I have still not yet narrowed down from whom I am going to buy the car but Toyota Sunnyvale is definitely one of the prominent candidates in my list.

New 2014 4Runner Features Rugged Exterior Design to Match Its Authentic Off-Road Heritage

For nearly three decades, the Toyota 4Runner mid-size SUV has been a stalwart for off-roading enthusiasts seeking a SUV with rugged, go-anywhere capability. Currently in its fifth-generation, 4Runner continues as one of the few fully capable mid-size SUVs, and the redesigned 2014 4Runner receives a rugged new exterior design, and interior refinements that add comfort and convenience without sacrificing its hallmark performance capability and excellent value.

The 4Runner combines rugged body-on-frame construction with comprehensive suspension technology that yields optimal off-road capability with a smooth ride and comfort more often associated with crossovers.  The 2014 4Runner is available in three grades: a well-equipped, value-driven SR5; top-of-the-line Limited, and a Trail grade for those who want maximum off-road capability.  Optional third-row seats on SR5 and Limited allow for up to seven-person capacity.

4Runner owners will have the choice of a rear wheel 4x2, part-time 4x4 or a full-time multi-mode 4x4 with a locking center differential.  All models are equipped with a powerful 4.0-liter, 270-horsepower V6 teamed to a five-speed ECT-i automatic transmission and one of the few vehicles that continues offer a transfer case.

4Runner’s Rugged Exterior Design Projects Its Off-Road Heritage With a Premium Refinement          
The refreshed 4Runner features a redesigned front fascia that conveys a more rugged and aggressive appearance.  This includes a muscular front grille, and edgier smoked headlamps for a more forceful look.  The SR5 and Trail grades feature a color-keyed grille insert and front bumper that is surrounded by fog lamps set in sharply cut inlays that extend from the headlamps down to the bumper.

The Trail grade features new color-keyed bumpers and overfenders, and it continues to be distinguished by an aggressive hood scoop and silver painted front and rear bumper accents.  All grades are now standard with a roof rack.  

In addition to the distinctive new grille, the premium Limited’s front design stands apart with a chrome-plated grille insert and chrome front bumper that extends to the fog-lamp bezels. The side molding, roof rack and rear bumper are also chrome trimmed.  The headlamps have also changed from halogen to projector beam, with both the headlamps and redesigned rear combination lamps on all 4Runner grades now featuring LED lamps.

Both the SR5 and Trail grades will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels with a new wheel-design for both, while the Limited continues to ride on 20-inch alloy wheels, which are now painted black prior to machining to add contrast.  All grades continue to come standard with a full-size spare.

The 2014 4Runner will be available in eight exterior colors that include new additions: Super White; Attitude Black Metallic; Barcelona Red Metallic; and Nautical Blue Metallic.  They will join carryover colors that include: Blizzard Pearl; Classic Silver Metallic; Magnetic Gray Metallic; and Black.

New Interior Styling Has a refined style with the Comfort expected of a Mid-size SUV   
The 4Runner exterior updates are complemented by touches of refinement on the inside.  Both the SR5 and Trail grade add standard Soft Touch door trim, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather shift knob provide a premium feel and atmosphere.

The SR5 receives a new bright and highly visible Optitron instrument panel that houses speedometer, tachometer, voltage, fuel and coolant temperature gauges, plus a multi-information display that offers multiple functions.  An Eco-Driving feedback system allows the driver to monitor fuel consumption in real time.  On 4Runner Trail, an overhead console within easy reach organizes the off-road control switches into one location.  A compass indicator and outside temperature display add functionality.  A manually controlled air conditioning system is standard on SR5 and Trail grades; the Limited features an automatic dual-zone climate-control system.

For second-row passengers, a sculpted front seat-back shape provides additional knee space.  The second-row seats, which include a center armrest, individually recline up to 16 degrees in four steps for relaxing passenger comfort.  The 40/20/40 second-row seat configuration also has a one-touch walk-in function, making access to the third row easier. Third-row seating is available on SR5 and Limited grades and features a roomy, supportive seating area.

The SR5 and Trail grade come standard with comfortable fabric-trimmed seating available in Sand Beige, Graphite or Black.  Available SofTex seats offer a soft, rich feel.   New for 2014, the SR5 adds a standard eight-way power driver seat.

The Limited comes standard with a leather-trimmed interior with new ventilated driver and front passenger seats in Sand Beige, Black and a new Redwood color.  Front seats are also heated with eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support and four-way power-adjustable passenger seat.  Both front seats are now standard with memory settings.

Powerful 4.0-liter V6 Helps Take 4Runner Anyplace, Anytime
The 4Runner 4.0-liter V6 generates 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. of torque.  Dual independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) optimizes torque across the engine’s operating range. Fuel economy ratings rival some crossover SUVs with an EPA-estimated 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway for 4x2 models, and 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway for 4x4.  Maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds and all vehicles feature an integrated tow-hitch receiver and wiring harness as standard equipment.

4Runner Balances Full Off-Road Capability with Smooth Around-town Handling
A double-wishbone independent front suspension, combined with a variable-flow rack-and-pinion steering, help give the 4Runner precise control on demanding roads.  Coil springs over gas shocks are used at all four wheels for a comfortable ride and controlled handling.  The four-link rear suspension maximizes off-road axle articulation, whileproviding a smooth ride for rear-seat passengers on and off pavement.

The Limited grade comes standard with an X-REAS suspension system that further improves performance, comfort and control.  With X-REAS, 4Runner corners flatter, smoother, and handles choppy pavement more easily.  X-REAS automatically adjusts the damping force of shocks when driving over bumpy surfaces or when cornering.  The system uses a center control absorber to cross-link shocks on opposite corners of the vehicle, substantially reducing pitch and yaw by offsetting opposing inputs.

The 4Runner SR5 and Trail 4x4 models have a two-speed, part-time four-wheel-drive system with neutral position, maximizing fuel efficiency when a 4x4 configuration isn’t needed.  The 4Runner Limited is equipped with a full-time, four-wheel-drive system with a locking center differential and a three-mode, center console-mounted switch.

The A-TRAC traction control system is standard equipment on all 4x4 models.  The system can distribute driving force to any one wheel in contact with the ground, making terrain irregularities and slippery patches virtually transparent to the driver.  An electronic-locking rear differential is standard on the Trail grade.

The Trail grade is designed to maximize off-road performance with superior approach and departure angles, high ground clearance, and an array of functional upgrades for the most demanding active outdoor enthusiast.  The Trail grade offers an optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS).  KDSS significantly improves terrain-following ability by dynamically disconnecting stabilizer bars to allow for more axle travel, and better suspension articulation in slow, difficult terrain.

Toyota’s Crawl Control (CRAWL) feature is standard on the Trail grade.  The system helps maintain an appropriate speed to keep the vehicle under control and minimizes the load on drivetrain and suspension components.

With the transfer case shifted into low range, CRAWL regulates engine speed and output (along with braking force), to propel the vehicle forward or in reverse at one of the five driver-selectable low-speed settings.  This allows the driver to maintain focus on steering over rough level ground or steep grades without having to also modulate the throttle or brake pedal.

The Trail grade also features a Multi-Terrain Select system that dials in wheel-slip control to match the terrain.  In loose terrain such as mud and sand, more-than-normal wheel slip is permitted, allowing wheel-spin to work in the vehicle’s favor.  On bumpy moguls, or solid rock, wheel slip is minimized and the system acts more like a limited slip differential.  The Mogul setting is for any extremely uneven terrain, such as V-ditches, slopes, and ridges, uphill or down.

All models come standard with Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which provides additional control for off-road driving by helping to hold the vehicle stationary before starting on a steep incline or slippery surface.  All 4Runner 4x4 models feature standard Downhill Assist Control (DAC).  This feature augments the low-speed ascending ability of low-range by helping to hold the vehicle, allowing time for the driver to a target speed with no driver intervention.

Versatility and Convenience Provide Comfort and Utility
An array of convenience features and versatile seating configurations provide the 2014 4Runner with ample passenger comfort and utility.  Fold-flat second-row seats provide a level load floor in the 4Runner, and it is not necessary to remove the headrests to fold the seats flat.  The available third-row seat is split 50/50 and folds flat.  The seats can be folded from the side or at the rear, using separate one-touch levers.  With this arrangement, more cargo space is available without removing seats, and longer items can be conveniently carried.

A Smart Key system featuring keyless entry with push-button start is standard on the Limited grade.  The system allows the driver to unlock or start the vehicle by carrying the keyless remote.  The cargo door window has jam control, like the moonroof and power side windows.

An available pull-out cargo deck is capable of carrying up to 440 pounds to make loading and unloading heavy items easier and to provide seating for tailgating and campsite relaxation.

All 4Runner models come standard with a 120V outlet and two additional 12V outlets.

A front and rear clearance sonar system is standard on Limited models, and a rear-view backup camera is now standard on all 4Runner models.  The system displays in the audio screen, increasing visibility at the rear of the vehicle.

New Audio Systems Include Standard Entune Multimedia System
New for 2014 on SR5 and Trail grade 4Runner models is Entune™ Audio Plus,  which includes Toyota’s Entune multimedia system,  an AM/FM/MP3 CD player with eight speakers, integrated SiriusXM™ Satellite Radio (includes 90-day trial subscription), USB port with iPod connectivity, and Bluetooth® hands-free phone capability and music streaming.

Standard on the Limited grade is the new Entune Premium JBL Audio system, which incorporates today’s most in-demand connectivity features.  It includes the Entune multimedia system, a JBL® premium sound system with navigation, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (with a 90-day trial subscription), HD Radio with iTunes® tagging and 15 speakers.  The navigation system includes a large seven-inch monitor.

Entune is a collection of popular mobile applications and data services, with three years of complimentary access.  Once a smart phone is connected to the vehicle using Bluetooth wireless technology or a USB cable, Entune’s features are operated using the vehicle’s controls or, for some services, by voice recognition.  Entune offers mobile apps for Bing™, iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable®, and Pandora®.  Entune data services include a fuel price guide, sports scores, stocks, traffic and weather.

Standard on all audio systems is a unique “party mode” audio setting that is ideal for tailgating, raises bass response and shifts sound balance to the rear of the vehicle.  Party mode is in addition bolstered by rear liftgate-mounted speakers, which function with or without party mode selected.  The pole antenna has been dropped in favor of a new in-glass antenna.

Toyota’s Exclusive Star Safety System, Eight Standard Airbags, Safety Connect
The 4Runner features Toyota’s standard Star Safety System™ that includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with traction control (TRAC), an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop Technology (SST) brake-override system.  VSC helps the driver to ensure control by compensating for front and rear wheel slip.  The system uses selective braking and modulated engine output to help keep the vehicle in line with the driver’s steering inputs.  On 4x2 vehicles, the Auto LSD (Limited Slip Differential) system allows for better traction on slippery sections of roadway. The four-wheel ABS with EBD provides the 4Runner with optimal brake proportioning, regardless of vehicle load.

Eight standard airbags includes front, side-mounted and knee airbags for the driver and front passenger, and side-curtain airbags for the second and third rows.  All 2014 4Runners have active headrests for driver and passenger, and three-point seat belts for all seats.

The 2014 4Runner Limited offers the Safety Connect™ telematics system.  Available by subscription, with or without the optional navigation system, Safety Connect offers four safety and security features: Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Location, Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), and Roadside Assistance.  When Safety Connect is ordered, it includes a one-year trial subscription.

In case of either airbag deployment or severe rear-end collision, an Automatic Collision Notification system is designed to automatically call a dedicated response center.  If a response agent cannot communicate with the occupants, the agent can contact the nearest emergency-services provider to dispatch assistance.

Pushing the in-vehicle “SOS” button allows drivers to reach the response center to request help in an emergency as well as for a wide range of roadside assistance needs.  If a 4Runner equipped with Safety Connect is stolen, agents can work with local authorities to help locate and recover the vehicle.

4Runner Includes Toyota Care Complimentary Maintenance
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items.  Additional 60-month warranties cover powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation.  The 4Runner will also come standard with Toyota CareƤ, a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

This review is basically just for the service center at Toyota Sunnyvale. I just bought a used Lexus down the street at the Toyota Sunnyvale used car lot. I'm a first time car buyer and was super stoked! I bought the car on Saturday and on Tuesday, the check engine light, along with two the lights, had turned on. Major bummer. I drove the car to the lot, where I was told to take it down the street to the new car lot's service center. People kinda look at you funny when you drive a Lexus into a Toyota auto place btw, lol. We were greeted immediately by Hector, we explained the situation, and he quickly called the other lot, got the run down from their front desk, checked out the car, got the paperwork ready and told us he'd call when they were done. About two hours later he called and let us know it was just a hose that needed to be tightened, and that the car was ready to be picked up. I got my baby back the same night. About a week later I had another issue with the car, there was a ticking sound and the battery had died. Another major bummer. Seeing as how I had an issue with my original contract and had to go back to sign a new one, as well as the car issues, I was beginning to think that buying a new car really, really sucked and was just a major hassle. I had to get the car towed this time, but luckily Hector was there again. He remembered us from before and immediately got the paperwork ready again. Later that night, we got the call saying they replaced the battery, did an inspection and the car was ready to pick up. Both times they were quick and had the car ready within hours, which I was thankful for, for not having to be carless for long at all. I work in retail, so I completely appreciate GOOD customer service! Everyone that helped us was friendly and quick, Hector especially. He knew we had just bought the car and understood our concern, he did everything to make sure BOTH problems were taken care of. He even came over to check on us when we were picking up the car the second time, because someone else had helped us. Yay! I got the car back today, and I'm a happy car buyer again!

Toyota Sunnyvale saved our lives. Our car was totalled and AAA gave us a rental car for 2 weeks and therefore we were trying to shop for a car in a weeks time. We went to a lot of dealership and we did not feel that our business was welcomed. The moment you walk into Toyota Sunnyvale, you can feel the welcoming and caring energy. Toyota Green Initiative Awards Green Campus Contest Grand Prize to Grambling State University Student



Toyota Green Initiative (TGI), an environmental stewardship platform designed to empower the African American community to adopt a sustainable lifestyle, is pleased to announce that student Corban Bell of Grambling State University in Grambling, La., is the grand prize winner of TGI’s third annual Green Campus Contest.  With nearly 1,300 votes on Toyota Green's webpage, Bell’s plan and establishment of a permanent, campus-wide recycling program at his school earned him a 2012 Toyota Prius and $5,000 toward the purchase of trees for his Grambling State University campus. He also receives membership to the TGI Coalition, a collective of environmental experts and celebrities who speak on sustainability within the African American community and relevant ways to go green.

First prize winner and runner-up Domenio Smith of Howard University in Washington, D.C., will also receive $2,500 toward the purchase of trees for his school. The trees for both Howard University and Gambling State University will be planted during the fall 2013 TGI Mobile Tour.

“We received so many phenomenal Green Campus Contest submissions from students concerned about the environment,” said Jim Colon, vice president of product communications for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. and TGI Coalition member. “In the end, Corban Bell’s plan to establish a recycling program and lead additional initiatives, such as hosting a sustainability awareness week and expanding Grambling’s compost program, impressed the TGI program as well as voters.”

“I’m so excited to be selected as this year’s Green Campus Contest winner, “says Bell. “TGI is a great environmental resource for the African American community, and I’m honored to represent the program in my efforts to improve the green culture at Grambling.”

The TGI Green Campus Contest is an environmental competition where students at select Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) can submit plans on conserving resources within their campus and/or community. After an initial selection round, each of the 10 semifinalists is provided with a $500 budget to help implement his or her respective campus program. The results of their efforts are reviewed by the TGI Coalition and the two finalists’ essays are posted on Toyota Green's webpage where visitors can vote for their favorites. Past Green Campus Contest winners include Tamika Smith of Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss., in 2011 and Stephen Graddick IV of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., in 2010.

There are a variety of Smartphone apps out there to help you track your gas fill-ups and mileage (or you could just keep a pad and pencil in the glove compartment). If you notice that your gas mileage worsens, mention it to your service man. It may be an early warning sign that something is wrong with your car.

To Whom it May Concern: Erick was a pleasure to work with. He went above and beyond the usual used car sales experience I have had in the past. The Van we purchased was a Dodge Grand Caravan ES, 2003 model, I pointed out to Erick that the tires had the bare minimum tread of 2/32nds and he went to Tom McDonald and he approved a brand new set of tires. We were very happy and purchased the van the evening of 04/16/13. I then took it to my mechanic, whom we have used for over 15 years, and he voiced some concerns. We went back to the dealership and showed the report to a salesperson and he had us speak with Frank. He said that there was nothing that could be done. At that point since one of our mechanic's concers was a cracked motor mount we invoked the 3 day/250 mile return option and sold the van back to Sunnyvale Toyota.The next day Erick, not knowing what happened yet, texted my wife and asked what happened and she let him know. When we arrived on Friday 04/19/13 at 1:45 pm to pick up our check for the full amount of our contract we were told that no one was sure which Toyota Sunnyvale lot it was at. Erick took us in to talk to Tom and he had the Service Manager look over the van to let us know what he saw. He saw some of the smae issues as our mechanic but explained why they were minor and did not need repair and did not compromise the safety of the van. At that point we were happy to take the van back. Bart was very helpful in reversing the transaction of 04//18//13 selling the van back to Toyota Sunnyvale, some minor DMV paperwork and we were out the door the second time with the van. We went out of town this weekend and when I turned on the headlights the instrument cluster remained dark. I managed to make it home safely and started checking fuses as that seemed most likely as all gauges worked fine, just the illumination problem. In the meantime my Wife sent Erick a text about the issue and within minutes he sent her an article about someone having a similar problem, one option was to disconnect the battery, wait 15 minutes and reconnect the battery to see if that re set the illumination on the instrument cluster. I was dubious but gave it a shot. Lo and Behold it solved the issue and were on our way. We just got back after a 500+ mile trip and the van ran great. I will recommend Toyota Sunnyvale to everyone I know as everyone on your staff througout this experience maintained a "no problem" "keep the customer" happy attitude. I would especially recommend Erick and when my other vehicle, a 2007 Rav 4,needs replacing your Dealership will be the first place I would start looking and hope to buy from you in the future. I love Sunnyvale Toyota...I've bought two vehicles here over the past seven years and have had a great experience both times. No games, just friendly and professional treatment. In addition, I've continued to bring my vehicles in for service here (even though I live in South San Jose). I recommend Paul M. as he treats you right and I never have to worry about maintenance games that I've experienced at other service shops.

My family have bought 3 new cars from this place in the last 3 years. Yes, we do our research and comparisons and sure enough, Toyota Sunnyvale always ends up with the lowest prices. They staff are reasonable and friendly My last vehicle purchase, I had Dan Fuller sales person help me. He is polite, courteous, and personable. He is eager to please the customer. had been contemplating purchasing a Prius for many months and finally decided I would brave a car dealership to check it out. I walked into the Sunnyvale Toyota Dealership with a knot in my stomach as I prepared for this experience. However when I walked through the door and met Reisa everything changed. She was so friendly and "real." She found me the perfect car for me. She did not try to talk me into something I didn't want. It was a refreshing experience. She and Phil worked together to help me get the best deal. I felt like they were honest and genuinely were interested in finding something that would work for me! I will come back and will tell all of my connections about the great experience I had!

Toyota Motor Sales No. 1 Retail Manufacturer in March 2013

 
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported March 2013 sales results of 205,342 units, an increase of 4.8 percent on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis. Unadjusted for 27 selling days in March 2013 versus 28 in March 2012, TMS sales were up 1.0 percent over the year-ago month. 

For the first quarter, TMS reported sales of 529,444 vehicles, an increase of 10.1 percent over the same period in 2012 on a DSR basis.  With 76 selling days in the first quarter of 2013 compared to 77 selling days in the first quarter of 2012, sales were up 8.7 percent on an unadjusted raw volume basis.

"The auto industry continued its string of impressive monthly results, and at Toyota we had our best month since Cash for Clunkers in August of 2009,” said Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.  “A strong first-quarter close and increased consumer confidence continue to position the auto industry as a leader in the economic recovery.”

Toyota Division posted March total sales of 182,152 units, up 3.1 percent year-over-year on a DSR basis.  Volume-wise, Toyota Division sales decreased 0.5 percent over March 2012.

Lexus reported March total sales of 23,190 units, up 19.4 percent on a DSR basis and up 15.1 percent by raw volume compared to the same period last year.

“With our strong new products, Lexus’ March sales were up 19 percent, and year-to-date we are now 17 percent ahead of last year’s sales pace,” said Jeff Bracken, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “For me, it’s great to be back at Lexus, and I look forward to partnering with our dealers and associates to continue Lexus’ innovation and success.”

  • Toyota, Lexus and Scion combined were the No. 1 retail manufacturer
  • Toyota was the No. 1 retail nameplate
  • Avalon sales of 6,982 units, up 109.9 percent
  • Corolla sales of 31,423 units, up 11.1 percent
  • Toyota Division truck sales of 75,119 units, up 7.3 percent
  • RAV4 was the best-selling truck with sales of nearly 16,500 units
  • Tacoma and Tundra up 21.2 and 7.9 percent, respectively
  • Sienna sales of 12,062 units, up 17.8 percent
  • 4Runner sales of 4,609 units, up 13.4 percent
  • Lexus passenger car sales up 13.1 percent
  • Lexus LS sales up 71.0 percent, with 980 units sold
  • Lexus ES sales of 6,798 units, up 116.4 percent
  • Lexus RX sales of 9,072 units, up 28.6 percent
  • Total Lexus Hybrid sales of 3,617 units, up 7.4 percent on a DSR basis

New Drivers Gain Critical Defensive Driving Skills and Confidence Behind the Wheel from Toyota's Teen Safe Driving Program

Free Events and New Online Resources Available to Help Reduce Teen Driving Fatalities as Signature Program Moves into 10th Year


Toyota continues to offer its free-of-charge safe driving skills program, Toyota Driving Expectations, and comprehensive online resources with the goal of reducing motor vehicle crashes, the leading cause of death among teens. Upcoming behind-the-wheel safety events will be held in Torrance, Calif., Denver and San Antonio for newly licensed or permitted teens and their parents to learn about defensive driving skills, crash avoidance techniques and the dangers of distracted driving during the 2.5-hour program.

Moving into its 10th year, Toyota Driving Expectations supplements standard driver’s education to prepare inexperienced drivers for the challenges they’ll face on the road. In recognizing the importance of parents’ involvement to help their teens develop responsible driving habits, the program requires a parent or guardian to accompany their teen.

Kicking-off in Torrance, Calif., professional instructors in the Toyota Driving Expectations “On The Road” program tour lead teens through driving courses and in-classroom discussions, while encouraging continued learning at home and demonstrating safe driving habits. This year’s events will be held at:
 
“Safer drivers lead to safer roads, so Toyota is committed to helping educate and empower teens and parents around smart driving choices,” said Michael Rouse, Toyota’s vice president of diversity, philanthropy and community affairs. “Through our safe driving programs, partnerships and online resources, we hope more young drivers will absorb the sobering lessons of distracted driving and learn key skills to keep themselves safe behind the wheel.”

To further the connection with teens in local communities, Toyota Driving Expectations has launched teen driving assemblies in high schools and dealerships across the country. Free Toyota Driving Expectations safety clinics at select Toyota dealerships will be led this summer by professional drivers who address vehicle safety features, defensive driving, distracted driving and vehicle maintenance.

Making Safe Driving Information and Resources Available
Toyota also offers free online safety resources for teens, parents and educators through its partnership with Discovery Education at ToyotaTeenDriver's webpage. The Toyota Teen Driver also has annual contests for teens and educators, including the current Toyota Teen Driver Video Challenge, whose top ten videos are open for public voting now through April 16th.  The winning teen will receive $15,000. 

Last fall, Toyota’s Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC) and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) announced preliminary findings from a major, national study that analyzed the critical role parents play in shaping teen driving habits. The UMTRI/Toyota Teen Driver Distraction Study found a significant correlation between parent and teen behaviors behind the wheel, suggesting parents can be influential role models for young drivers. Startling study findings showed that 61 percent of parents and 54 percent of teens report that they use a hand-held cellphone while driving, emphasizing the importance of including parents in the Toyota Driving Expectations program.

While helping parents talk to their teens about safety can be challenging, Toyota is dedicated to furthering this important conversation. Earlier this month, the company partnered with Teen Vogue to launch “Arrive in Style”, a safe driving campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving among teenage girls and inspire them to make a mutual commitment with their mothers to drive safely.  The campaign features monthly advertorials with tips and advice from Toyota on different safe driving topics, as well as stories and online videos of Teen Vogue readers and their mothers about their commitment to driving safely.  A microsite will feature Toyota’s Mutual Driving Agreement that mothers and daughters can e-sign and share via Facebook for a chance to win monthly prizes. In addition to signing the Agreement, teens can upload a photo on the microsite of them and their mom “air driving” for a chance to win a trip to New York City to be featured in the February 2014 issue of Teen Vogue.

Building on its 10-year relationship with the National Safety Council, Toyota supports the Council’s DriveitHOME initiative, launched in March at DriveItHome's webpage. Designed by and for parents of newly licensed teen drivers, the online community uses highly visual media to educate parents on the dangers facing teens on the road and ways to coach recently licensed drivers. Like Toyota Driving Expectations, DriveitHOMEencourages the conversation about safe habits to continue long after teens receive a license.

I came into Toyota Sunnyvale on a weekend to test drive a few cars not knowing which car I wanted to purchase yet. After spending about half a day with Bharat, I knew which car I wanted to buy that would fit with my lifestyle and budget. I am so thankful to Bharat for taking his time in explaining and educating me about cars and what steps I needed to take in order to keep my car for a very long time.
