25 More Toyota Cars for Good Winners Announced

The 2012 car giveaway is now halfway over.

"Toyota has announced the second set of 25 winners in the 2012 100 Cars for Good program. The contest gives away one vehicle a day for 100 days. Charities underwent a nomination period earlier this year and each day five of the finalists are featured on the Toyota Facebook page. The public can vote for their favorite charity and at the end of the day, the nonprofit organization with the most votes wins their choice of one of six Toyota vehicles.

 

This year’s program is just past the halfway mark but the Toyota Sienna is the most popular vehicle yet with 25 organizations choosing the minivan. Toyota has also given away 11 Tundras, 8 Highlanders, 3 Sienna Mobility models, 2 Prius v models and one Toyota Camry.

 

“With this announcement of the next 25 winners, we mark the half-way point of the 2012 Toyota 100 Cars for Good program,” said Jim Lentz, president and chief executive officer of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. “Toyota created the 100 Cars for Good program as a way to give to a variety of organizations across the country and to do so with the help and support of the American public. It’s the public vote that decides which organizations will receive a new Toyota vehicle and we are thrilled to see the outpouring of support for the program with thousands of votes.”

 

Organizations from a variety of sectors are represented among the first 50 winners including animal welfare and wildlife, health and safety and education. Organizations like Animal Aid, Inc in Oakland Park, Florida are among the winners this year.

 

Animal Aid, Inc is a no-kill shelter that is “dedicated to the welfare of stray and feral animals and to the reduction in the over population problem through education and spay/neuter efforts.”

 

Another winning charity this year is DC Scores. The Washington, D.C. based organization provides after-school programs for low-income youth in the city. Amy Nakamoto, DC Scores executive director, explained how the organization would use the new Toyota Sienna minivan during the delivery ceremony.

 

“Thanks to Toyota's generosity and service to our community, we will be able to provide and transport much-needed soccer and writing equipment to over 40 DC public schools who host a DC SCORES after-school program. This will increase our efficiency in using time, money and people to directly impact hundreds of DC students in the coming years. We are very grateful to be part of such a large and effective philanthropic initiative by Toyota.”
