10K Scion Fans Donate 25K Toys for Tots at Scion Night, Knott’s Scary Farm

TORRANCE, Calif., (Oct. 18, 2012) – Scion owners and their family and friends gathered at Southern California theme park Knott’s Berry Farm on Oct. 17, 2012 to donate a Toys for Tots gift and gain entry to haunted mazes, music performances and rides. It was the ninth year of Scion Night at Knott’s Scary Farm, the carmaker’s largest owner appreciation event.

Park entry was free for the first 10,000 people who arrived in a Scion, wore a seatbelt and donated a toy worth at least $10 to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign. A total of 50 Marines from Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach (Calif.) were on-site to accept the donations.

“Each year we appreciate the generosity of Scion and its owner community to include Toys for Tots in this event,” said Marine Gunnery Sgt. Willie McClendon. “The 25,000 toys donated this year means more children will smile a little brighter during the holiday season.”

Hours before the park opened for Halloween events, Scion owners gathered in the parking lot for aftermarket exhibits, food trucks, carnival games, music performances and hot lap driving demonstrations from Scion’s veteran drifter Ken Gushi.

“Scion Night is an opportunity to bring our customers together and say ‘thank you’ for the energy and enthusiasm they bring to this brand,” said Amit Chandarana, Los Angeles region Scion and e-commerce manager. “By also partnering with Toys for Tots, we leverage the incredible generosity of our owners and give back to our children in our communities.”

The parking lot was packed with more than 2,500 Scion vehicles with guests coming as far as Arizona and representing at least six Scion car clubs from the Southern California area.

Toyota Tundra Makes History Towing Space Icon

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 13, 2012) – A Toyota Tundra half-ton pickup truck without any special modifications successfully towed the space shuttle Endeavour and custom-built dolly -- a combined weight of nearly 300,000 pounds -- across a bridge spanning the nation’s busiest freeway on Friday night, Oct. 12. The tow was a result of a 20-year partnership between Toyota and the California Science Center to raise awareness of the space program and continue public education through exhibits and events.

The shuttle’s 12-mile route over city streets to its new home at the California Science Center includes one passage over the 405 Freeway. The Tundra assisted in the transport of the Endeavour as it journeyed over the Manchester Boulevard Bridge—an area that required a lighter tow mechanism than other portions of the route for weight distribution purposes. Toyota did extensive testing and worked with the Sarens Group, a heavy lifting and engineering transport company, to develop a dolly to move the Endeavour over the bridge.

“We’ve partnered with the California Science Center since the early '90s as part of our ongoing commitment to inspiring youth in the fields of engineering, innovation and future technology, and we are honored to lend our support for this historic event,” said Michael Rouse, vice president of community affairs and philanthropy for Toyota.

The model selected was a stock 2012 Tundra CrewMax 4x4 with Toyota’s 5.7-liter iForce V8, producing 381 horsepower. All Tundra trucks are produced exclusively at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas in San Antonio. The truck used to tow the Endeavour was purchased from a Southern California Toyota dealer, with no modifications or special equipment added for the tow.

The Tundra was piloted by longtime Toyota professional driver Matt McBride. Riding along was Garrett Reisman, one of the astronauts aboard the orbiter when it traveled to the International Space Station in 2008. From start to finish, it took about five minutes to cross the bridge.

“I’m honored to be part of the space shuttle Endeavour’s final mission to the California Science Center,” said Garrett Reisman, an engineer and former NASA astronaut. “I appreciate Toyota’s support in helping bring this space icon home to the Southern California community.”

The Science Center has a popular working exhibit utilizing a Tundra that demonstrates the physics of leverage. The Tundra used to tow the shuttle will replace the existing truck when the Endeavour exhibit opens on Oct. 30, 2012.

Microsoft Continues Collaboration With Toyota to Drive Its New Global Communications Infrastructure

Toyota_microsoft_collaboration

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsoft Corp. today announced that Toyota Motor Corp. has chosen Microsoft's technology platforms to build its communications and collaboration infrastructure for the Toyota family of companies worldwide.

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., and other affiliates in North America began the deployment of Microsoft Office 365-dedicated cloud services as their exclusive environment in June 2012. In Japan and other overseas affiliates, Toyota will be leveraging a hybrid model, with on-premises editions of Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Lync and Windows Server.

Microsoft will help Toyota provide these services to more than 200,000 employees around the world during the next two years. The goal of implementing this Microsoft platform is to better support mobile devices, reduce costs, and improve collaboration between employees with state-of-the-art enterprise social networking, conferencing, messaging and information-sharing tools.

"We continually strive to make our business stronger by improving Toyota's organizational health, and today's announcement to upgrade our communications is another step toward that goal," said Shigeki Tomoyama, managing officer at Toyota. "We strongly believe that Microsoft has the most capable platform that delivers ease, excellence and efficiency required to provide the communication experience our employees expect."

"Toyota's decision to deploy Office 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Lync and Windows Server to its 200,000 employees worldwide is further evidence of the enterprise-class quality and scalability of the world's most popular productivity platform, as well as another key milestone in our growing alliance together," said Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner. "By seamlessly integrating both cloud and on-premises environments, Toyota will enable its employees to effortlessly collaborate and communicate with each other, whether they are within the same four walls or in locations around the world."

This announcement represents an expansion of Toyota's collaboration with Microsoft technologies. In April 2011, Toyota and Microsoft partnered to provide next-generation telematics services using the Windows Azure cloud platform. Today's announcement expands that initial investment and includes participation in Microsoft early adopter programs to test new products before they are released.

"I am delighted that, following the forging of our strategic agreement in 2011, Toyota has chosen the Microsoft platform to build its global IT communication infrastructure and that our two companies are further expanding their partnership as a result," said Yasuyuki Higuchi, president and CEO, Microsoft Japan. "The building of a communication infrastructure for the 200,000-plus users in Toyota and its group companies in Japan, America and throughout the world is one of the largest projects that Microsoft has ever undertaken."

Meet the 2013 Toyota Avalon: A Design Story

What inspired the 2013 Avalon? Watch Toyota's leading designers and engineers explain how they turned a "magic sketch" into something extraordinary.

Thanks to Andy for the Great Review of Toyota Sunnyvale's Service Department on Yelp

"Paul Matsui and his service techs are awesome! After several re-scheduling on their web site for my appointment, I finally brought my car in for a routine maintenance on a Sunday and brought up this problem of non-functioning marker and taillights I just noticed the other night. After a full day's diagnosis, Paul came back and told me something is causing the fuse for these lights to pop and they will need more time to find out the cause. I really needed the car to go to work the next day so I told Paul I will need to re-schedule this for some other time when he is there and left.

I went back on that following Friday worrying about if they can get this fixed before I get a fix-it ticket or worse yet, an accident. That afternoon Paul called and told me that they found a pinched wire from one of the taillights that's touching the car body hence shorting out the fuse. Paul told me he will deal with Toyota on this issue and handed me my car key (well, key-less key). Thank you! What a relief to not have to worry about things that we take for granted day in and day out anymore! That experience is now just enhanced with a super service from a super friendly service adviser!" -Andy C.

Thank you, Andy, for the very kind review of Toyota Sunnyvale's service department. Paul and our whole team provide a low stress and minimum inconvenience service environment for all of our customers, and they do what it takes to make sure your service needs are met. We look forward to seeing you again.
